Weathr: moderate temperature, some clouds but mostly sunny.
Our journey from Te Anau to Portobello was an easy drive along SH 94 and 1. We passed Gore and Clinton. Mind you Gore was better looking. The landscape is like mid-western US - soft rolling hills and mostly agriculture. No industry in sight. This was also obvious on the road. No heavy trucks, just campers and cattle transports.
We also had a great night out today- Blue Pinguin spotting. At Pilots Beach there is a colony of about 160 Blue Pinguins (20-25 cm tall, 1 kg and 2 chicks pr year). They leave their nests about 0400 hours to feed about 20-25 km out and return with the last glimmer of light. The scheduled return was for 2030 today. But they somehow missed their turn and arrived late. Actually too late for my camera, so I bought a postcard instead......... :). They dont like flash and white light, orange light is permitted.
Die Otago Peninsula ist Zuhause für Blaue Pinguine, Albatrosse (3 m Spannweite), Wasservögel und Sehunde. Ist aber auch ein Zentrum für Urlauber aller Schattierungen, wie auch Campings, B&B, Motels und natürlich hat fast jeder Neuseeländer eine Sehenswürdigkeit anzubieten.

C'est vraiment étonnant que toutes les gammes de restaurant ont les même prix, comme pré-agréé. Les repas sont en haute qualité partout.
Les pizzerias et autre repas rapide ne sont pas le rêve et moins bon que chez nous.
