Weather:sunny and warm, day's high 30°C, interstingly on the stretch with the monuments the temperature was the highest despite the wind. Closer to Apollo Bay it was quite nippy

The Great Ocean Road begins in Port Fairy and ends in Torquay (or the other way round if you are starting out in Melbourne, driving on the left does not give you an advange because you can see the coast in glimps only). If you want to see the waters of the Bass Straight, you have to get out of the car. All sight seeing spots provide parking (none on the main road, it is very difficult to stop without being a traffic hazard). I think we have done all the rocks, monks, bridges and apostles today.

The Bay of Islands offer spectacular views onto several rock formations (30 m high maybe), displaying their colosr in the sun. Seeing the colours for the first time, it took me quite a time to really take in the sight.

Der Bogen (the Arch) bietet vielleicht den am wenigsten Spektakel offerierenden Ausblick. Der Felsbogen ist ein wenig versteckt und unscheinbar und nicht spektakulär.

Apollo Cave nous offre une vue spectaculaire à travers d'une formation de rocher (un trou) sur la Bass Straight. A noter la couleur de l'eau. On pourrait perdre beaucoup de temps ici pour trouver le meilleur moment pour prendre la photo. Apparemment le soir est optimal pour donner un impression. Malheuresement on n'a pas le temps pour attendre toute la journée, même pour un retraité le voyage a une limite de temps)

The London Bridge is formidable piece of rock in the ocean. It really looks like a bridge with pillars. Unfortunately the first portion to the east fell into the waters some years ago because of erosion, leaving a gap. At that time, tourists were on the rocks and they had to be rescued by helicopter.

Port Campbell ist ein malerischer Hafen und lädt zum Baden ein (gem. Einheimischen kein Problem mit Haien). Abends konzentrieren sich die Festivitäten auf das Zentrum. Eigentlich wollten wir hier übernachten, fanden aber nichts im Internet. Vor Ort stellten wir fest, es trotzdem noch Platz gehabt hätte........leider aber schon in Apollo Bay gebucht. Internet ist nicht alles, aber wir wollten nicht im Auto übernachten. Wir haben mîtbekommen, dass dieser Sommer der kühlste seit Jahren sei, normelerweise seien die Temperaturen um die 35-40°C.

Les 12 Apostles sont l'endroit le plus fréquenté de ce part de la Grand Route Océanique. Il existe un centre de récéption et des vols d'héli sont offerent (à 200 AU$ / personne). Aussi ici l'érosion pose de probèmes. Un après l'autre des apostles tombe. Mais la vue est magnifique. Surtout pendant une journée ensoleillé comme aujourd'hui............couleur de l'eau: bleu foncé. Il y en a beacoup de visiteurs du Chine......voir la photo de la dame en botte (elle a du avoir vraiment chaud parce que il fausait 30°C, mais la mode dicte les habits).
